A Guide to GhostWriting and how to find good GhostWriters
Ghostwriting is used in just about every industry in which writing is a key player. A ghostwriter is essentially a professional writer who is compensated to write articles, stories, books, reports, or even songs that are officially credited to another party. Most often, ghostwriting is used by celebrities, politicians, and executives who have been commissioned to write something for the public eye. The ghostwriter is then hired to write the entire work, edit it, or just assist with the completion of the piece. It will ultimately depend on the contractual agreement between the ghostwriter and client as to whether or not the ghostwriter will receive any official credit for the work.
In many cases, the ghostwriter and credited author will work closely to complete the work. Typically, the credited author will make an outline of what he or she would like to see written and then provides the ghostwriter with all the small details that should be included within the content of the story. Other times, the credited author will have written the entire piece and a ghostwriter comes in to edit and polish the work for publication. In still other cases, the ghostwriter generates all of the content and the credited author claims it as his or her own. It just depends on the particular arrangement between the ghostwriter and the credited author.
Although the level of input and amount of work that goes into any given project that involves a ghostwriter, it is extremely rare for ghostwriting to occur with absolutely no input from the credited author. Even if the ghostwriter does all of the actual writing of the work, the credited author will have at least provided the basis or groundwork for the assignment and will have final say over the final draft. Most commonly, the public hears of a book ghostwriter who has assisted a celebrity in writing his or her autobiography. This usually occurs when the celebrity does not have the time or the writing skills necessary to complete such a work.
However, ghostwriting is not reserved for celebrities alone. It is also used in the online marketing arena, where many times marketers or companies will hire writers to prepare web content and articles relevant to certain websites and claim them as their own. In these cases, the ghostwriter is also signing away his or her rights to the work, as a pre-negotiated price will have already been agreed upon before the works is written. For this type of work, and for larger assignments, there are ghostwriting services available that connect such clients with ghostwriters.
A good ghostwriter should have not only a passion for clear and effective writing, but should also exude enthusiasm for the project, no matter what the subject. If the writer has no passion or interest in the assignment, he or she may not produce quality work. It is also important to remember that ghostwriting services may be negotiated before the project is begun, so that both the client and the writer are satisfied with the price for the job.
