Blog Writing

Blog writing has definitely become one of the most popular modes of professional writing today, so it pays to have a few tips under your belt to write effective and interesting entries. Blogging is a type of writing that draws readers in and keeps them coming back for more. It informs, entertains and even raises conflict on occasion. A blogging community unites a group of people across the globe who share a common interest or passion, through the written word that you provide. If it sounds like a lot of responsibility, that's because it is. But with a few tips on how to write great blogs, you will be up to the challenge.

  • Stay Current

Blogging is about writing on a topic that you know something about. You won't be able to pass yourself off as an expert in your subject if you rehash old news, so spend time researching and reading up on your topic to keep your readers abreast of the latest and greatest. It is also important to make sure you have your facts straight before you begin pontificating on a particular point. When it comes to blogging, current knowledge is everything.

  • Stay on Task

Blogging is generally done on a particular theme, and it tends to work best when you stay on that topic. Within your category, you can offer opinion pieces, news and commentary, as long as it stays within your general subject. Don't get bogged down in sharing the details of your life or move off in too many tangents if you really want to create an audience of loyal readers that are united in a common interest.

  • Stay on Schedule

Okay, this is where it might get a little tricky, because you need to weigh quality and quantity very carefully. First, it is important to have new entries frequently to keep readers coming back for the nuggets of wisdom you offer regularly. However, if those nuggets don't add much to their knowledge or enhance their day, the nuggets are not terribly useful and will not be sought after for very long. On the other hand, brilliant dissertations that are too few and far between will lose readers as well. The solution? Write quality blogs on a regular schedule, so readers will know when to tune in to your next flash of brilliance. It's the stuff that good bloggers aspire to and search engines will notice too.

  • Stay in your Style

The last rule of blogging is that there are no hard and fast rules in this style of writing. Use a conversational tone or make it as technical as you like. Write with humor, write with passion or write with both. Inform your readers, offer an opinion and encourage response. Give a tip, provide a resource or inspire a giggle. Use your writing assets to your fullest and give your readers a chance to love what makes your writing unique and fun. Blogging is all about using your strengths to the fullest. Write well and have fun!
